Fragmentation is the recurring visual theme in the design of this book. It is to highlight the central issue in the novel - the displacement and mutilation of humanity because of science.
As this is a bilingual book, reading patterns of English and Chinese is considered in the design. The English version begins from the front of the book while the Chinese version begins from the back, with both ending in the middle.
